It’s most likely that you are not thinking about it at all. These months just before the summer holidays hit off are very hectic and you find yourself in between your busy work life and planning your well-deserved summer break.
But when summer ends the hectic life starts all over again. And for those whose jobs demands them to relocate to The Hague, The Netherlands: it’s go time!
Let me explain why now it’s the best time, for you as an expat, to start acting.
Searching takes time
Even if it will be just for a short period of time, it will be your home away from home. The place where you can relax after a long day at the office. And where you will entertain and have guests over. Perhaps your family will join you. So your partner and children want to feel happy too in their new house.
The search for a property that matches yours and your family’s criteria takes time. Because it is so important to feel happy and at ease, especially in a foreign country, we take the search for your new home very seriously. Let’s start with a conversation to get to know each other, to understand your expectations and to get to know the wishes behind your wishes about the house you are looking for. What is it exactly what you need in a property? What will suit you best? Do you want to live close to your office? Is it important to have good public transportation nearby? Is there a pet you’re taking along with you? Do you know the schools you want your kids to enlist to?
The answers to these questions and many other ones define the ideal property you are looking for. And then my job really starts. HouseScout will do the searching on your behalf and will make an inventory of suitable properties that fit your wish list. Video viewings will be made so you literally can watch how these houses look from the inside. Or, if you want to see the properties yourself, we can schedule viewings with you and your family. That does mean that these viewings will have to fit into a lot of calendars.
Not to mention the time that is needed for negotiations, paperwork, registering at school, decorating the house and other administrative issues.
Finding a home abroad takes time and planning. No matter if it is for a few months or for several years or even for the rest of your life.
What? Only two weeks’ time?
That has happened to me once, yes. Someone asked me to find them a house in just 2 weeks’ time. And I did it alright! But you can ask yourself if that is really what you want. Because two weeks is really cutting it close to find a property that ticks all the boxes. Actually, it came down to that I did the choosing for them. A lovely house they were super happy with by the way.
That we managed to meet that challenge says something about the expertise HouseScout has gathered through the years. But it’s not how we prefer to work though.
Six months is a bit too much
Perhaps you are a bit cross now and are you thinking: ‘Shouldn’t you have posted this blog much sooner then? A few months ago there was plenty of time! And I am really busy now.’
Let me explain why:
Houses go fast. The property you might have fallen in love with at the beginning of this year is no longer available at this time. House owners don’t want to leave their rentals empty for months waiting for you to arrive. So, now is the best time to start searching!
And you don’t have to do all the work just by yourself. HouseScout is here for you!
