What's so important about a home?
December is the least ideal month to sell your house! But that’s absolutely fine! It gives you time to do completely different things. HouseScout is happy to share 10 tips on the fun things you can plan at your own pace during this festive month.
A Dreadful Month
December. It’s dark and wet. Most of the greenery and flowers are gone, and the landscape is bare. Plus, everyone is preoccupied with other things due to all the holidays. December is the worst month to put your house on the market. And HouseScout thinks that’s just fine.
In addition to my love for working for you as a seller, buyer, landlord, tenant, property manager, or expat, I also enjoy my free time. And December is the perfect month for that.
A Wonderful Time
Cold, wet, and dark conditions might not be ideal for showcasing a home, but they are perfect for appreciating your own house even more. HouseScout uses this time to fully enjoy being home and to gather inspiration for finding and presenting new homes in the coming year.
In this blog, I’m excited to share my top 10 favorite things to do during the December holiday season!
- Number one, hands down, is drinking a big mug of hot chocolate (preferably with a huge dollop of whipped cream). There’s nothing better than sitting cozily indoors with that big mug in hand, sipping the sweetness while the harsh winter wind howls outside.
- December is the perfect time to fall in love with your home all over again. It’s wonderful, especially when it’s cold and wet outside, to sit by the fireplace with your loved one. Fire crackling, fur rug in front, bring on the romance!
- Speculaas, pepernoten, taaitaai, cookies, or maybe even a Christmas stollen. There are so many delicious treats associated with the December holidays, and it's so satisfying to bake them yourself in your kitchen. The smell of speculaas spices in your home makes all the effort more than worth it! Same goes for brewing your own mulled wine… mmm…
- Gift anticipation. Receiving and giving something fun, funny, or nice is, of course, really enjoyable, but the anticipation might be the best part of all. Coming up with silly poems, for example, to tease each other a bit. It's something different from discussing the energy label or square meters of living space!
- Ice skating… watching it on TV and cheering loudly as our Dutch champions race to the finish line! In the meantime, you can already get your skates ready. There’s nothing wrong with being eternally optimistic and still hoping for that Elfstedentocht! Even if it doesn’t happen, at least we’ll have had some skating fun this winter!
- Don’t spend your entire life with your feet on the ground. A little dreaming, a little floating, and getting inspired is just wonderful! And why not take this month to sit on the couch, under a soft blanket, staring out the window and letting your thoughts roam free? Who knows, you might come up with a brilliant plan to make your house feel even more like home!
- And let’s not forget the Christmas dinner. Isn’t it delightful to cook up a big meal for friends and family and enjoy it until the wee hours? Come on, isn’t that exactly what home is for?
- I'd like to expand tip number 7 by adding playing a board game with your guests. Although… is that really enjoying your home? I’m quite competitive, so… yes, especially if I win! 😀
- Give your house a good cleaning. I know, it doesn’t sound like fun, but once you do it, it’s wonderful to have everything neat and tidy again. Without the clutter, your home will look even better!
- Ooh! Painting, yes! Or maybe wallpaper? What are you going to do with that one corner in the living room? If you’re staying home anyway, it’s fun to look at your spaces as if you’re seeing them for the first time. Do you still like it, or is it time for a change? Then, of course, roll up your sleeves and get to work!
Enjoy and see you in the new year!
With this blog, my month of pure December enjoyment has begun. It starts with turning off my computer and diving into the peace of occasionally doing nothing at all. And then… point 3, or maybe send out some invites for points 7 and 8? No! First, of course, point 1. After all, it’s at the top of the list for a reason!
I wish you the most wonderful days and many cozy home moments. And if you’re looking for a new place in the new year, I’ll be ready to help!
Season’s greetings, see you in the new year!
